What it does

Etsy seller fees stack across four categories that can quickly eat 15-25% of gross revenue if you don't price for them. As of 2024-2025: listing fee ($0.20 per item, charged at listing creation, renewable for $0.20 every 4 months whether the item sells or not), transaction fee (6.5% of total order including shipping — increased from 5% in April 2022), payment processing fee (varies by country — US is 3% + $0.25, UK is 4% + £0.20, EU is around 4% + €0.30), and Offsite Ads fee (12-15% on orders that came through Etsy's paid ads — mandatory if your store earns over $10K USD/year, optional below). Plus VAT in some jurisdictions, currency conversion fees, and the optional Etsy Plus subscription ($10/month for extra features).

The calculator takes your sale price, shipping price, location (US, UK, EU, other), and Offsite Ads status, then breaks out every fee line by line and shows your actual payout. For a $50 item with $5 shipping: listing $0.20, transaction 6.5% of $55 = $3.58, payment processing 3% + $0.25 of $55 = $1.90, total fees ~$5.68 — which is 11.4% of the $50 item price (or 10.3% of the $55 gross). If Offsite Ads applies (12% on top), add another $6.60, pushing total fees to ~$12.30 / 24.6% of item price. Sellers who don't do this math go bankrupt slowly.

Pricing strategies the calculator surfaces: (1) Bake fees into price — if you need $40 net on a $50 item, list at $58-60 to absorb fees. (2) Use shipping carefully — Etsy charges transaction fee on shipping too, so free-shipping-baked-into-item-price avoids a small chunk vs separate shipping. (3) Offsite Ads opt-in vs mandatory — under $10K/year you can opt out; over $10K it's required at 12% (down from 15% for high-volume sellers). (4) Multi-quantity listings — one $0.20 listing fee covers unlimited identical items. (5) Etsy Plus subscription — only worth it if you use the ad credits and listing credits regularly; most casual sellers don't break even.

How to use it

 1. Enter your item sale price.
 2. Enter shipping price (or 0 for free shipping baked into item price).
 3. Pick your location: US, UK, EU, or other (different payment processing rates).

When to use this tool

 • Pricing new listings to ensure you actually profit.
 • Comparing whether to absorb shipping into price or charge separately.
 • Annual financial review — calculating effective fee percentage across your sales.
 • Deciding between Etsy and other platforms (Shopify, big-cartel) where fee structures differ.
 • Negotiating wholesale pricing — you need to know your minimum acceptable Etsy retail to inform wholesale.

When not to use it

 • International tax/VAT for complex situations — consult a cross-border tax advisor.
 • Etsy Pattern (Etsy’s Shopify-alternative) — different fee structure.
 • Bulk wholesale — fee math changes; this calculator targets retail listings.
 • Subscription products or recurring orders — Etsy doesn’t support these natively; the math is different.

Common use cases

 • Educational use — demonstrating the underlying concept
 • Onboarding a colleague who needs the same calculation/conversion
 • Verifying a number or output before passing it on
 • Quick calculation during a typical workday

Frequently asked questions

What's the actual all-in fee percentage?
For a typical US seller without Offsite Ads: 11-13% of gross (listing + 6.5% transaction + 3% payment processing). With Offsite Ads (mandatory at $10K+ annual): 22-25% of gross. Add VAT, currency conversion, and Etsy Plus if applicable — high-volume sellers commonly see 18-30% effective fee rate. Plan pricing accordingly.
What's the Offsite Ads fee?
12% of orders that came through Etsy's paid ads on Google, Facebook, etc., for sellers earning over $10K USD/year. 15% for sellers under $10K who opt in voluntarily. Etsy can show your listings on these ad networks; if a customer clicks an ad and buys within 30 days, the fee applies. Sellers under $10K can opt out entirely; over $10K it's mandatory.
Why does the listing fee renew?
$0.20 listing fees automatically renew every 4 months OR after a sale (you can disable auto-renew on individual listings). Active inventory keeps incurring listing fees even if it's not selling. For slow-moving items, consider letting listings expire vs auto-renewing — saves $0.60-2.40/year per dud listing.
Should I offer free shipping?
Etsy heavily promotes free-shipping listings in search rankings and the “Free Shipping” filter. If you bake shipping into the item price, your conversion rate improves. Math: $50 item + $5 shipping = $55 gross either way; transaction fee is the same. The benefit is pure marketing/visibility — Etsy's algorithm favors free shipping. Most successful sellers offer it.
What about international sales fees?
Currency conversion fee: 2.5% if your sale currency differs from your bank’s currency (e.g., GBP sale to USD bank). VAT: collected by Etsy in EU/UK and remitted on your behalf, but it shows in your fees. Some countries impose import duties paid by buyer. International sales typically have effective fees 3-5% higher than domestic.
Is Etsy Plus worth it?
Etsy Plus is $10/month (was $10/mo originally, now $10/mo confirmed). Includes 15 listing credits, $5 in Etsy Ads credit, customizable shop banner, restock requests, custom shop URL. Worth it if you list 15+ items/month AND would've spent $5+ on Etsy Ads anyway — break-even is roughly $8/month in usage. Casual sellers (under 5 listings/month) don't break even.
